(More customer reviews)...though I haven't had many vacuums. This vacuum, as far as I can tell, has excellent suction that picks up all my pet hair (I have two long-haired Maine Coons) and the pet-paw attachment is fantastic for furniture, pillows, the cat tree, etc.

The "self cleaning" duster attachment, however, sucks; it's easier to clean the duster with the hose than with the special chamber they built for it. Also, the lever they installed to direct the suction to the duster-chamber broke off recently and I can't even superglue it back on because of the kind of plastic it's made of.

For the price I paid ($130 at Walmart), great vacuum though I suspect it won't last many years like a more quality one might.

So how does the Dynamite Plus stack up?It sucks!Very, very well.I don't think I have ever used a vaccum that had such powerful suction. I bought a Dirt Devil cordless unit (the one that no one seems to like) about a year ago and it was garbage. I wondered if anyone really needed cordless while in the confines of their own home. Most likely not. Why not trade the dubious benefits of cordless for maximum sucking power? For the price there is proably no vacuum made that is more powerful. So why only 4 stars? Despite a vacuum that seems well built, convenient, light, bagless, portable, etc., there is one thing that is insanely ridiculous about the Dynamite Plus' design. All of that powerful suckiing power shoots right out a front grill of the vacuum.Like a tornado!!!!The first time I used it was in the kitchen it it literally blew all of the photos and notes off my refrigerator. The next time bordered on slapstick comedy if I could have considered it funny. I was vacuuming the hearth of my fireplace and the tornado-like exhaust fan blew ashes from the fireplace all over my living room!!!Who in their right mind would design a vacuum with a jet engine strong exhaust fan right in front pointing at the very dust and dirt you are going to vacuum?Final thought ... the plastic recepticle fills up very fast. I vacuumed what I thought was a clean tile floor in the kitchen and the dirt container was full. I emptied it and vacuumed my staircase and the dirt bag was full.Is this a bad thing?How can it be? The Dynamite Plus is sucking in dirt that I didn't even know existed. That's the whole reason I vacuum. So I would rate this as the best bargain of any vacuum I have ever seen except for that silly design flaw. It's not at all a reason to not purchase this vacuum. You just have to know how to avoid pointing it at things like fireplace ashes. Bottom line is I have never owned a vacuum with as much suction. This thing is dirt cheap for what it does.

(More customer reviews)I originally purchased the highest rated vacuum cleaner currently on the market: Hoover UH30010com however I ended up returning it. The UH30010 is an excellent vacuum however it lacks a roller brush switch. My house consists of 50% hardwood / 50% carpet. I purchased the UH70210 instead because of the features: no loss of suction, cord rewind (hard to find feature on uprights), brush roller switch, folding handle, its lightweight, easy to empty canister and lifetime filter. I used this vacuum on the same day that I vacuumed with the UH30010. I was not expecting it to pick up anything. I was shocked to see the container get full. The suction is excellent and picks up anything it encounters. As for the bad stuff: the cord tends to get stuck at times when being extracted. You sometimes have to pull hard on the cord to break it lose. The light could be brighter. The dirt container is on the small side and fills up quick. The emission odor it puts out is not clean. It puts out a weird plastic smell. I was fortunate enough to get it on sale being priced below one hundred at my local membership club store. For the price, features and performance, it is a great buy.

(More customer reviews)I highly recommend this vacuum. I received it two weeks ago after purchasing on Amazon and it is hands down the most superior vacuum I have ever owned, and definitely outperforms other vacuums I have paid a lot more for.

I always shop the field and do fairly extensive research for all consumer purchases. We consulted Consumer Reports and this model ranked fairly high in overall performance yet had a reasonable price tag. We have about 1800 square feet of carpet, most of it medium-pile. We have one australian shepard, three manx cats, and a two-year-old child, so pet hair and dander pick-up were important to us, as well as filtering.

This model comes in a bagged version, the bagless version (the one I bought), and a bagless self-propelled version. I found the bagged version in some local stores, but I am not interested in a bagged vacuum. My local Costco carried the self-propelled version, but it was very very heavy and besides I just don't understand why the self-propelled feature even exists.

This vacuum is very quiet for it's power. It has exceedingly powerful suction. The dirt sensor has two modes - normal and sensitive. The sensitive setting is truly microscopically sensitive. The vacuum is relatively light weight for its size. Either way, this feature works and it is helpful in high-traffic areas.

Best Feature #1: The canister is almost "self-cleaning". You have to see it to understand, but there are two chambers...the first chamber contains the primary filter, and then all the medium and course particulate and hair and whatnot fill the second chamber. To empty, you just drop the bottom like most canisters, but the difference is that there is nothing in the second chamber for the course matter to get caught up on so it just empties right out without your having to fuss with it, and then the filter (this is genius) rotates via an exterior handle that unfolds from the canister. You spin the filter, and it spins against a plastic tab inside the canister, causing all the fine particulate to just drop out the bottom. When you are done you canister is almost brand new again, and you are dust-free and NOT breathing a bunch of crap!

Best Feature #2: I don't know how this is happening, but this vacuum rolls so easily it FEELS like it is self-propelled. Only it's not. I think it must have exceedingly high quality wheels.

Our house smells better after running this vacuum. We breath easier. This vacuum is so good I would by it new every six months if I had to. We paid about $180 with shipping, an absolute bargain given its performance and features. Oh yeah, the detachable pet hair attachment actually works!

Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Dual-Cyclonic Upright Vacuum, 3920 Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased one of these fellas today after having just returned my Dyson. Yes, that's right, I RETURNED MY DYSON! To be honest, I am still scratching my head as to why so many people throw praise at the Dyson. I had one of their "Animal" vacuums for one day, and although it was a nice product... really, is it worth almost $500? I mean, I am talking about a LOT of money here, so why should you spend that much money on a vacuum cleaner?

The simple answer is that you don't have to. The Dyson Animal picked up just a small amount of debris from my fully-carpeted apartment when I tried it out. The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser was almost half-full after I used it earlier today, only 12 hours after having using the Dyson.

I'm not sure what to make of this, to be honest. The Bissell (which costs about 1/3 the price of the Dyson) seems to do the job much better. Although the unit is quite bulky, and requires some assembly (the instructions were a joke), I have much cleaner floors as a result. And my biggest peeve about the Dyson was that, after paying all that money for a product that was called "The Animal," I still had to pay an extra $69 for the pet hair attachment! Is it me, or is someone trying to rip me off here?(Edit: I have been told that one of the Dyson Animal vacuums comes equipped with the aforementioned attachment).

As for the Bissell, it comes with all of the attachments that you will ever need, and did a great job on my upholstery as well as my carpets. Although the hose isn't as long as the Dyson, I was able to clean everything that I needed to clean without any setbacks.

My conclusion is this - if you believe that a Mercedes Benz is the best car out there because of its price tag, then you will probably be better off with a Dyson. However, if you just want a vacuum cleaner that does a decent job regardless of how much it costs, then go with the Bissell.

Simply put, my Bissell Pet Hair Eraser vacuum cleaner does a better job than the Dyson Animal, plus I have an extra $300 in my pocket.

Now, does that seem like a no-brainer to you?-Update 04/04/2009-

People keep asking me how the vacuum is performing now, so I'm going to address this matter.I'm still happy with my purchase and stand by it.No, the Pet Hair Eraser is not perfect, which is why I gave it four stars instead of five.However, it does a great job of cleaning my carpets, still, and I have only had to replace the belt once because of my own mistake.Looking at the other reviews, it seems like people either love it or hate it.My advice, if you are unsure, would be to purchase one from a nearby store so that you can return it if you are not happy.

The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser finally passed away just recently.So, we managed to get two years out of it.Some of you will think that is good for a $150 vacuum cleaner, whereas others will have higher expectations.As for me, I think that we got more than our money's worth.It performed great until just recently, when it simply stopped working the way it used to.Let me make it clear that we vacuum a lot in our household - at least once a day - so this thing got put through its paces.We're happy with what we got out of the Bissell, and will be buying another here soon.Although, we may just go ahead and get the slightly cheaper Pet Eraser (model #4101) from Walmart this time.
